How To Make A Press Kit

A press kit is a very efficient way of introducing and marketing yourself if you are a musician striving to get into the recording business. It should contain some of your background experience in the music industry, a few good reviews you have gotten for your music, good photos, and very importantly a sample of your music. You should then send this press kit to promoters, recording studios, newspapers, radio stations, and other people concerned who can help you establish yourself for recordings. The Electronic Press kit is another way to go about it. Much like a standard press kit, EPS serves the same purpose except that you can be able to download it from the Internet in an electronic file method as compared to sending it manually as a hard copy. Whichever way you choose to do it, your press kit is very important to help you get to where you want to go. Here are ways to prepare it for yourself.

* Your background information. Although it would be alright to put in a little bit of information on where your roots are from, it is more important to focus on the subject of your music. You may add your singing style, the type of songs you are comfortable singing, and your favorite recording artists. This will give the people reading your kit an idea of the kind of musician you are. Include your experiences in performing your music. This could help you establish the fact that you are a professional musician. You could also put in some information on where you got inspiration from your particular music. More importantly, let the reader know what makes you stand out from the rest. You must be able to show them something different because the competition is stiff and you cannot be just like the rest. You must be able to convey what particular edge you have over the others.

* Favorable reviews for your music. If you have had some performances where you received favorable reviews such as newspaper and other press clippings, make sure to include them into your press kit. Quotes from other people commending these performances can be added in as well. Do not include favorable comments from members of your family as they will surely be biased. If you can, get these reviews from people who know what they are talking about and have a good reputation in the music industry.
* Your photos. Get some really nice shots of yourself to include on your press kit. The people you will be sending it to will want to know how you look like. Make sure that your pictures are presentable, and make them interesting photos as well.
* Your sample music. The most important part of your press kit is your music. This is where you will be able to prove yourself as a good musician. Make sure that you present your best piece of music to showcase your talent. Be very meticulous about the quality of the music you send. No matter how great your press kit may be, ultimately, your music will determine your fate.

Make the packaging of your press kit as professional as you can. Include a letter addressed to the particular person you are sending it too. Make your message short and direct to the point. Your press kit should be able to speak for itself. Arrange the items on your kit so your photos do not go out of shape or your CDs get damaged in any way. Label your kit properly and send it on its way.
